With 35 years experience, Jim assists business, insurance and litigation clients in both Alaska and Arizona. Jim has enjoyed an A rating with Martindale-Hubbell for nearly 20 years. He has been inducted into Legal Counsel of America, and was selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America in 2015 in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Insurance.

Jim has been married for 40 years with two wonderful children and now two grandchildren.

Jim’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, flying and other outdoor activities in Alaska and Arizona.  He stays physically active and loves to play hockey, hike, bike and golf.  He owns a Cessna 206 airplane which he enjoys flying in both Alaska and Arizona, as well as all locations in between.  He enjoys riding his Harley-Davidson with his friends on the Arizona desert roads.

Jim attended St. Olaf College in his hometown of Northfield, Minnesota, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977.  He attended Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was awarded a Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) in 1980.  After graduating from law school he was accepted into the Attorney General’s Honor Law Graduate Program with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he served as a trial attorney in the Tax Division from 1980-1984.  Jim has been in the private practice of law since 1984.
